Youth between the ages of 5 and 25 from all walks of life are coming together in their communities to build Habitat for Humanity homes. Both locally and across the nation, Youth United is engaging youth of all ages to play an active part in transforming their communities. Want to get involved in your community?
Youth United mobilizes young people, ages 5 to 25, to fully fund and build a house with their local Habitat for Humanity affiliate. Supported by the local affiliate, Youth United brings young people, including Habitat homeowner youth, together from throughout a community to sponsor and build a Habitat home. Students learn leadership and teamwork skills, and gain a better understanding of their community and poverty housing. All students are engaged in fund raising, education and advocacy activities, while those over 16 help with the actual house construction.
The four goals of Youth United are to:
• Involve youth in their community.
• Engage youth in Habitat’s mission of eliminating poverty housing.
• Foster teamwork among diverse groups of youth.
• Develop youth leaders.
“…this project has helped to define the person I have become. And in reflection, I know that although I helped to build a house, the house really built me.”
-Wes Clark, Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County, Youth United Steering Committee Leader, Winston-Salem, N.C.
