Traditional "Habitation" Celebration Concludes Week's Build MARAGONDON, Philippines (March 26, 1999) -- At the end of the day on Friday, the last official day of the 1999 Jimmy Carter Work Project, only "punch lists" of basic tasks remained. Volunteers worked to put finishing touches on the 293 houses being built on six sites in the Philippines. "If you've finished your house, please go to another house and help them finish," said former President Jimmy Carter during a lunch break, exhorting volunteers at the biggest of six build sites. "We've got 130 houses to finish before we go home." The week-long build concluded with a traditional Habitation ceremony Friday night. Menardo Jimenez, chairman of the JCWP '99 Advisory Council, led a gathering of 5,000 volunteers at the Maragondon, Cavite, build site, in this responsive prayer:
