JCWP HOMEOWNERS:WADE AND SHALINA GIBSON Two months ago, Wade and Shalina Gibson learned that Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter would be leading the volunteer team helping to build their house. "That was a shock," says Wade. "It seemed like a dream." The dream became real this week, as the Gibsons worked alongside the Carters to construct their new house. And how do they like the end result? "We like the color," says Wade. "We like the siding, the vinyl flooring, the ceiling fans are beautiful. And I like the special railing Mr. and Mrs. Carter thought up because they love porches, too." The Gibsons also are excited by other changes their new house and neighborhood will bring. "I can enjoy playing oustide with my children now. There were a lot of drugs [where we lived before]... now I can come out in the yard and enjoy playing with the family. I can stay in my driveway and wash my vehicle. It's the American dream." Now that the siding is installed, the roof shingled, the interior walls painted and the flooring put in, the Gibsons are eager to move in. "We're packed up" says Shalina. "I grew up in this area," adds Wade. "I was born here, I used to stay in this neighborhood, so I'm coming back home." |
