Jason Zellen of Troy, Mich., unloads sod for House #2 in Detroit. Both literally and figuratively, the groundwork is laid for families to lead happy, healthy lives in their new Habitat houses.

The groundwork is laid

The houses are finished. The sod is laid. The groundwork is laid for Habitat homeowner families in Detroit, Benton Harbor and throughout Michigan to start fresh.

The JCWP has given homeowners like Tunisia Wilson something to value in the years to come: "I'd like the volunteers to know that I promise to take care of this home," she says.

And the volunteers have no doubts about the homeowners' commitment to their new houses.

"These are the hardest-working homeowners!" says Carol Callahan, a volunteer from Ohio, of Cora and Robert Taylor.
