In 2008, Habitat celebrates 25 years of building with President Jimmy Carter and former first lady Rosalynn.

Coast to Coast
After a week of house building in Los Angeles in 2007, the newly renamed Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project sets its sights on the U.S. Gulf Coast for 2008

Habitat for Humanity's Carter Work Projects are always about looking forward and looking back. Partner families look forward to their new affordable housing, knowing that their current cramped or unsafe living conditions will soon be a thing of the past. Volunteers gather, many looking forward to their first time on a Carter construction site, many more looking back fondly on years of events and memories.

In that spirit, this March 2008 issue of Habitat World chooses to stand on the threshold of the new year and consider the roles of Habitat supporters in the organization's mission. Volunteer Amy Stark, winner of last year's Habitat World essay contest, shares her reflections on her time in Los Angeles in the following pages, and we announce this year's winner, Kraig Koschnick.

As part of Habitat's ongoing Gulf Coast recovery effort, and to raise awareness of the enormous needs that still exist in the region, Habitat for Humanity and former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, selected the Gulf Coast as the location for the 25th annual Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project to be held May 11-16. Biloxi's Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast will serve as the event's main host affiliate. Visit www.habitat.org/jcwp/2008/ for more event information.

Gulf Coast recovery remains on the hearts and minds of concerned individuals around the world, individuals like Kraig. His winning essay explains why he wants to participate in Carter Work Project 2008.
