| Volunteers from around the world will gather in Durban, South Africa, June 3-7, to build during the Jimmy Carter Work Project 2002. The 100 houses built in Durban will top off a year of intensive house building throughout Africa. Durban, a coastal city of 3.2 million, was once known for its history of segregation after South Africas apartheid government relocated thousands of Indians and black Africans from the area in the 1960s. In June, however, Habitat will build houses and reconciliation as homeowners and volunteers work together to raise awareness of housing issues throughout Africa. Volunteers can register for the JCWP 2002 online at www.jcwp2002.org.za through mid-April. For more information, contact Rita Clemens at (800) HABITAT, ext. 2272. |
