Global Village Program

Habitat for Humanity International’s Global Village trips give participants a unique opportunity to become active partners with people of another culture. Team members work alongside members of the host community, raising awareness of the burden of poverty housing and building decent, affordable housing worldwide. As partners, team members help build a true “global village” of love, homes, communities and hope!

MYANMAR DISASTER RESPONSE
Since Cyclone Nargis hit Myanmar, the Global Village department has received numerous calls from volunteers asking how they can help. We are not able to place Global Village teams inside Myanmar at this time, but Habitat for Humanity is assembling a technical team to partner with other organizations in support of long-term reconstruction efforts. You can help by directing a donation to Habitat’s Disaster Response: Cyclone Nargis.

To learn about other ways you can get involved in Habitat’s disaster response effort, visit our Disaster Response Web page. If you are interested in physically helping rebuild communities impacted by natural disasters, please consider joining one of our Global Village teams going to countries impacted by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami – or to the U.S. Gulf Coast communities rebuilding after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. There are currently teams headed to Bangladesh, Thailand and Biloxi, Mississippi. This year’s Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project is highlighting those U.S. Gulf Coast needs as well – think about getting involved.

Come build homes for orphans and vulnerable children in Mozambique.

Mongolia – August 2-16, 2008
Looking to do something exciting yet meaningful this summer? Join in building much needed houses in Mongolia! You will not only be immersed in a completely different culture but you will be helping Habitat work towards the global goal of eliminating all substandard housing.

Have you always wanted to travel to the continent of Africa, but not as the usual tourist? This could be the trip for you! Participants on this build will have the opportunity to experience two countries – Lesotho & South Africa! So give a little bit of yourself to come away with so much more.

Asuncion, Paraguay – June 28-July 7, 2008
Go beyond just building a house—come face-to-face with poverty housing in a unique way this summer. This trip will be conducted in conjunction with an educational series entitled, “Where We Live Matters.”
