It’s before noon on Tuesday, and Victor Jones has already put in nearly a full day’s work—and he hasn’t even made it to the office yet. Victor is volunteering with Metro Jackson Habitat for Humanity’s Operation Home Delivery project before heading to his full-time job at Milwaukee Electric Tools. But the long hours are not a factor for this first-time Habitat volunteer. “To be doing something for someone who will appreciate it makes it worthwhile,” he says. Jones first learned about Habitat’s work from observing volunteers building houses in his hometown of Brandon, Miss. “Habitat has been doing a lot of work in Brandon and I wanted to find out what it was all about,” he says. When he learned about Metro Jackson HFH’s Operation Home Delivery project, he jumped at the opportunity to get involved. Jones says that he plans to spend more time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and that he would encourage others to do the same. “It’s worth the experience,” he says. “It’s a friendly environment.”
