Interested in becoming a Disaster Corps Volunteer?

Disaster Corps Volunteers are trained to work with Habitat for Humanity in disaster settings and utilize their professional experience and skills in a wide range of situations.

If you possess the skills below, you may be a great candidate for Disaster Corps:

  • A positive attitude!
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Flexible worldview, emotional maturity, and physical stamina.
  • Able to manage stress under high pressure.
  • Proactive work ethic.
  • A wide range of skills and interests.
  • Can be deployed on short notice.
  • Able to work effectively in unstable and resource-poor environments.
  • Culturally sensitive with the ability and interest to work with a multicultural team.
  • High tolerance for ambiguity and constantly changing requirements.
  • Willingness to perform hands-on tasks.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomatic communication skills.
  • Able to work independently while also being a strong team player.
  • Leadership skills and ability to promote a team-building environment.
  • Experience with computers, fax and standard office equipment (HF, VHF and satellite radio experience a plus).
  • Flexible, adaptable and able to listen to the affiliate’s needs before offering suggestions. (Assignments commonly change quickly based on the constantly-changing environment after a disaster.)
