Six months after the tornado that struck Habitat for Humanity’s “hometown” of Americus, Georgia, new buildings are being constructed, families are rebuilding their homes, businesses are being repaired, and the community is being strengthened through the experience of “weathering the storm” together. Habitat has contributed money donated to the organization for recovery to a number of local organizations, including New Horizons Habitat for Humanity and Sumter Regional Hospital. New Horizons HFH has already dedicated a new house for a Habitat family whose home was destroyed by the Americus tornado, and they continue to evaluate tornado damage to more than 300 Habitat homes in the greater Sumter County area.
