Romania -- Habitat for Humanity Int'l 1
Romania
The floods along the Danube River in 2006 were among the most devastating in 100 years. A Habitat for Humanity International-UNICEF Romania funded project that was started in November 2006 in the Danube shore villages of Bechet, Macesu de Jos and Carna, ended in June 2007. The intervention project was successful in assisting more than 195 needy families whose homes were either completely destroyed or had structural problems.

In 2006, flooding in Romania destroyed hundreds of homes. Habitat for Humanity is helping to rebuild in the affected area.

In the past 2 1/2 years, more than 440 families in three counties have been assisted through flood response projects in Romania. Habitat for Humanity Romania is now gearing up for a new disaster response project. In September 2007, 35,000 homes in Tecuci, Galati County, were completely flooded. More than 1,500 homes experienced total devastation. Habitat for Humanity Romania is committed to assisting 110 families over the next nine months, with the cooperation of the Tecuci city hall and additional fund-raising efforts.
