The American Dream -- Habitat for Humanity Int'l 1
June 10, 2006The American Dream
I awoke this morning with a very strange feeling. I was sad, but then I was happy. I was in my own home, however, I felt very lost! All of these different emotions were due to one simple fact; my roller coaster ride of building a house in one week was over! For the past seven days, I spent morning, noon and night at the Habitat site and now I didn’t know what to do, realizing I didn’t have to be out there. This past week, I — along with the other builders, volunteers, subcontractors and staff members — learned so much! We learned dreams do come true! We also learned what a wonderful industry we have all been blessed in and how well we all can work together when we all have a common goal.
The wonderful thing about this entire project was that each day we anxiously faced a new challenge. Also, everyone was happy and enjoyed being a part of a work in progress. Working with wonderful people, meeting new people in the industry, eating good food and staying on schedule was why this was such a successful week. In other words, people CAN make a difference in our world!
The dedication ceremony on Friday afternoon was something I will never forget. There were hundreds of people who came to witness the celebration. Video cameras, flashbulbs from cameras and media from all venues were scurrying around to capture these special moments many will cherish for a lifetime.
The Wood and Hastings Construction family feels very blessed to have had the opportunity to be one of the participating builders in this project. Our family actually feels like we were the recipients of something immeasurable.
Thanks to everyone who made the week possible; I will miss you all.
