Democratic elections are held and Negasso Gidada becomes president.

1995-Egypt
Habitat for Humanity in Egypt completes its first multistory building in partnership with the Coptic Orthodox Church in Port Said. The seven-story building houses 41 families.

1996-Tanzania
Habitat for Humanity Tanzania tithes (contributes a percentage of funds raised) to Habitat national offices in Bolivia and Botswana. HFH Botswana tithes to HFH Uganda to celebrate Habitat's 20th anniversary. These are the first tithes by Habitat national organizations in Africa.

1997-Tanzania
Habitat for Humanity Tanzania builds its 1,000th house.

1997-Uganda
Uganda HFH hosts its first Bike and Build. Thirty Ugandan cyclists rode from Kampala to Masindi to join a Global Village mission in construction of Habitat houses.

1998-Tanzania, Kenya
U.S. Embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya, are bombed by terrorists.

1998-Kenya
Athiru Gaiti HFH hosts volunteers from the United States and Kenya in an accelerated build, which is followed by a hike up Mt. Kenya, Africa's second highest mountain.
