In India, USAID IGP funding through 2012 enabled Habitat for Humanity to launch a Housing Microfinance Technical Assistance Center for southern India, where less than one percent of microfinance portfolios target housing needs. This program will provide advisory services and peer learning exchanges to the microfinance sector and will focus on initial pilots with CapStone Finance and Growing Opportunity.

For an example of the depth and quality of HFH-funded research in India, please review the study conducted in Chennai by the Centre for Micro Finance at the Institute for Financial Management and Research in “A Report on Low Income Housing in India: Challenges and Opportunities for Microfinance.
